Sustainable Ceiling System at LeopoldQuartier Vienna
With the LeopoldQuartier on Obere Donaustraße, Europe’s largest urban quarter entirely built using hybrid timber construction was created. Developed by UBM Development, the project is considered a showcase example of climate-friendly construction, combining ecological responsibility, modern architecture, and innovative building technology. In addition to office spaces and high-quality apartments, a particular focus was placed on energy-efficient, flexible, and sustainable interior solutions.
Austria’s Largest Cooling Ceiling Project by Fural
A key contribution to the sustainable overall concept comes from Fural’s ceiling systems. In Building A, with approximately 15,000 m² and around 5,000 installed heating and cooling panels, the company’s largest cooling ceiling project in Austria to date was implemented. The metal ceiling panels with integrated heating and cooling functions enable uniform, energy-efficient temperature control while maintaining high acoustic quality.
Acoustic Guide Profile ALP – for Maximum Efficiency
The KLS system in RAL 9016 with acoustic guide profile (ALP) was used. Thanks to optimized perforation (Perforation 2.5 – 16% Rg2516), it provides improved sound absorption and up to 20% higher heating and cooling performance compared to conventional systems. This allowed for a reduction in material and energy use while increasing cost-efficiency. In addition, KLB strip-grid and metal cassette ceilings ensure maximum flexibility of office spaces and long-term adaptability.
The combination of hybrid timber construction, renewable energy supply, and high-performance, sustainable ceiling systems makes LeopoldQuartier a pioneering reference project for future-proof office and urban quarter development.
Collaborative Implementation as a Success Factor
The project’s successful realization was based not least on close cooperation among all project stakeholders. Special emphasis was placed on the collaboration with the project developer and client PORR Bau GmbH, as well as the executing professionals.
“Our client placed great value on a hands-on mentality and collaborative work,” reports Mr. Eusic Nadin, Project Manager for Dry Construction at Baierl & Demmelhuber Innenausbau GmbH. “Through mutual respect and a trusting partnership, the project was completed on schedule and to the highest quality standards.”
