For the headquarters of the LORENZ Life Sciences Group, a modern office concept was developed that convincingly combines functionality, aesthetics, and corporate identity. The design was led by the Berlin-based architectural firm Tnpx GmbH, which approached all architectural aspects holistically – from spatial structure and lighting design to acoustics – carefully coordinating every element. The result is a contemporary, productive, and exceptionally comfortable working environment.
Industrial Heritage Meets Modern Working Environment
As part of the renovation, the existing fiberboard ceiling was removed and the original load-bearing structure was exposed. Columns and beams now deliberately reference the building’s history as a former warehouse, giving the spaces an authentic industrial character. This architectural clarity was intentionally contrasted with homely elements, creating a dynamic yet harmonious overall composition that blends industrial heritage with a modern working environment.
Expanded Metal Ceiling as a Design and Functional Highlight
A central element of the concept is the ceiling solution in the meeting areas: the Fural system “STM hang-in system (Type B, mesh size 22 x 2 x 2 x 1.5 mm, folded edges on all sides)” was used. The expanded metal ceiling integrates seamlessly into the open architectural concept while also delivering strong functional performance.
Thanks to its transparent structure, it supports the open spatial effect while maintaining accessibility to the technical infrastructure above the ceiling. It also contributes to optimized acoustics and allows flexible integration of lighting and building services. The result is a technically sophisticated, durable, and aesthetically high-quality solution that significantly shapes the character of the space.
Partnership-Based Collaboration as a Key Success Factor
“A key component of the project’s success was the close and constructive collaboration of all parties involved,” explains Fural’s technical consultant and project supervisor, Steffen Wand, who supported the project comprehensively from the outset and provided on-site assistance during coordination and installation.
Execution was carried out by Burger Baudekoration GmbH, represented by Managing Director Nils Burger. During several joint on-site meetings, system details were precisely coordinated and installation was carefully prepared. “This partnership-based and solution-oriented collaboration between planning, technical consulting, and execution ensured that both design and functional requirements were optimally implemented,” says Steffen Wand.
The result is a high-quality expanded metal ceiling that not only impresses architecturally but also creates tangible added value for the working environment of the LORENZ Life Sciences Group through its technical advantages and sustainable quality.
