Child-Friendly New Construction for a Future-Oriented Hospital
University Children’s Hospital Zurich (Kispi)

In November 2024, the new University Children’s Hospital in Zürich-Lengg was opened, fully tailored to the needs of young patients. The new complex includes an acute care hospital as well as a research and teaching facility, setting new standards in pediatric healthcare and medical research.

Focus on Architecture and Functionality
The hospital promotes the well-being of children and families through a healing-focused architectural design, emphasizes Jacques Herzog from the architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron. Installed HT28 profiles from Metalit combine safety, harmonious design, and tool-free accessibility for maintenance, explains Tobias Todt, the project manager.

Materials and Sustainability
Innovative perforations offer high sound absorption and a discreet appearance—crucial in a hospital setting. The integration of ventilation perforation highlights the fusion of functionality and design. Both buildings are the first hospitals in Switzerland to receive SGNI Platinum certification for sustainability and energy efficiency.
