BG Accident Hospital Berlin: New building rehab clinic
Nickl & Partner Architekten AG, 2021
BG Klinikum Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin (ukb) opened its new five-story building in early 2021. Covering approximately 17,000 square meters, it houses the following areas: The new Integrative Rehabilitation Clinic, the new Clinic for Ventilation weaning, the expanded Neurological (Early) Rehabilitation and the enlarged Sports Medicine area. There are now 151 beds on five wards, with all patient rooms being single rooms with bathrooms - most of which also have balconies or loggias. The new rehabilitation clinic offers space for a wide variety of therapy areas: From physiotherapy to speech therapy to relaxation therapy. It meets the growing demand for rehabilitation treatment in the region. In addition, the new building will create around 150 new jobs.
The design was undertaken by Nickl & Partner Architekten. With their "healing architecture" approach, factors such as light incidence, wall and floor design, room arrangement and acoustics are taken into account. The recovery process is positively influenced by these factors. Various ceiling systems from Fural were chosen for the corridors. The F30 fire protection ceilings and SWING F0 files were used because of their proven functions: acoustics through tested perforations, fire protection and revisability for easy and flexible access to the ceiling cavity when needed. In addition, the Fural clip-in system, designed as a technical duct, was installed along the fire protection ceilings - the building project therefore had its own expert opinion confirming its applicability. The complexity in the planning was definitely worth it, because the result convinces everyone involved.
